Can an Oral Health Condition Lead to Bad Breath?

person with bad breath in need of a dentist in indian river

If you neglect your oral health, your dentist in Indian River will warn you that you’ll develop bad breath. Neglecting your oral hygiene is one thing that might make your breath bad, but other things could be the cause as well. If you want your breath to smell better, you’ll need to treat some of the main causes of bad breath, including gum disease and oral health issues  person with bad breath in need of a dentist in indian river

Bacteria Is the Main Cause of Bad Breath

Halitosis

Bacteria are the main cause of halitosis, the medical word for what we often refer to as bad breath. When microbes interact with the carbohydrates in the food, they release a pungent odor from the mouth that has a sulfuric odor which is bad breath. Spices and sweet foods that have broken down can also create an unpleasant scent, which may combine with the sulfuric smell and cause bad breath.

Periodontal Disease

Microscopic bacteria can bring on gum inflammation and tooth decay. The biofilm known as plaque, composed of sugar-rich food leftovers, builds up on teeth or in the area between teeth and gums. When this substance is left on the teeth, it can harm your oral health and contribute to bad breath

Cavities

The germs in your mouth attack the teeth’s outer covering, the enamel, leading to cavities or holes. The surrounding teeth may become infected due to these holes growing larger. If this issue is not treated right away, it can harm your teeth even more and make your breath unpleasant.
