FAQ Regarding Sleeping With Dentures

Is It Okay to Sleep With Dentures on?

While you can wear your dentures at night, sleeping in with your dentures frequently can cause complications to your oral health. Sleeping in with your dentures frequently can cause bacterial growth, bone loss, and gum infection if left unchecked. You should be ok if you don’t often sleep in with your dentures, but you still need to make it a habit to remove them when you sleep.

What Happens When I Don’t Wear My Dentures While Sleeping?

Every time you sleep without your dentures, you give your gums and jawbone a chance to relax from the pressure of wearing dentures. As a result, you’re also preventing it from becoming looser than usual since you’re resting the muscles around your gums. You’ll also be preventing bacteria and plaque build-up in your mouth and on your dentures.

Can You Wear Dentures 24/7?

Wearing them 24/7 shouldn’t become a habit since it can cause permanent damage to your oral health. If you need to wear your dentures for some reason, you should find time during the day to remove and clean them for at least a couple of minutes.
