Practical Tips for Adjusting To Your Brand-New Dentures Faster

Are you receiving the first set of Vero Beach dentures you’ve ever worn? You should expect to go through an adjustment period before they feel more natural to you. During the first few weeks, you may find it challenging to eat and talk as you normally would. Thankfully, you can do a few things to help you adjust faster to your new teeth.

What You Can Do To Get Used To Your Dentures Faster

Drink Lots of Water

During the first few days, your mouth may produce more saliva than usual, making it difficult for you to properly enunciate words. The best way to dilute your saliva and help you swallow regularly is to drink lots of water. This should help restore your saliva levels to normal.

Read Aloud

You may feel a bit frustrated as you experience speech issues while your mouth begins to adapt to your brand-new dentures. To rapidly resolve this problem, you’ll have to get used to speaking while wearing your dentures. Grab your favorite novel or magazine and start reading aloud.

Start with Soft Foods

The best way to learn how to chew food without dislodging your artificial teeth, scraping your gums, or biting your tongue, is to start with soft foods. Try consuming foods that include pudding, mashed potatoes, and hummus. These and similar foods limit your discomfort as you become comfortable moving your mouth with your dentures in.

Slice Your Food into Small Portions

Once you’re ready to eat tougher foods, be sure to cut them into bite-size portions to make it easier for you to chew them with your back teeth. Eating smaller portions can help you adjust the amount of pressure you use to chew. Additionally, it helps you become more accustomed to your jaw’s up-and-down and side-to-side motions without popping your dentures out of place.
