Should You Use Denture Adhesives?

Denture adhesives can be a useful tool for many people who wear Port St. Lucie dentures. They help to secure the dentures in place, providing a sense of stability and confidence. But are they really necessary for everyone? Let’s explore the benefits of denture adhesives and when it might be time to visit your dentist instead of reaching for more adhesive.

Benefits of Denture Adhesives

Denture adhesives can offer several advantages. They provide an extra layer of security and help prevent food particles from getting trapped under the dentures, reducing irritation and discomfort. Additionally, they enhance the comfort of wearing dentures by cushioning the gums and improving bite force.

When to Use Denture Adhesives

There are specific situations where using denture adhesives can be particularly beneficial:

  • New Denture Wearers: For those who are new to dentures, adhesives can provide added confidence and security while they adjust to their new prosthetics.
  • Minor Fit Issues: If your dentures have minor fit issues but are otherwise in good condition, adhesives can help keep them in place until you can see your dentist.
  • Active Lifestyles: If you lead an active lifestyle or participate in sports, adhesives can help ensure your dentures stay securely in place during physical activities.
  • Special Occasions: For events where you might be speaking a lot or eating a variety of foods, adhesives can offer extra stability and comfort.

When to Stop Using Denture Adhesives

While denture adhesives can be helpful, they are not a cure-all for poorly fitting dentures. You should consider visiting your dentist if you experience the following:

  • Increased Use of Adhesive: If you need to apply adhesive multiple times a day or use larger amounts than recommended.
  • Loose Fit: If your dentures feel loose or shift around in your mouth even with adhesive.
  • Discomfort or Pain: If you experience soreness, irritation, or pain in your gums.
  • Difficulty Eating or Speaking: If your dentures are affecting your ability to eat or speak comfortably.

These signs suggest that your dentures may need to be adjusted, relined, or replaced. Dentists can refit your dentures, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit without excessive reliance on adhesives.
