Types of Toothpastes—And How to Find the Right One for You

Ask the Best Dentist in Fort Pierce What Toothpase Is Best

Visiting the best dentist in Fort Pierce at least twice a year can do wonders for your oral health, but it’s the work you put in every day that makes the difference. Brushing after every meal and flossing daily is key to maintaining a clean mouth.

However, with so many toothpaste options on supermarket shelves nowadays, finding the right one to protect your smile can be challenging.

Types of Dental Toothpastes

Fluoride Toothpaste

Fluoride toothpaste is the most popular toothpaste on the market. In addition to the basic ingredients, this toothpaste contains fluoride, a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and reduces acid production to help prevent tooth decay.

Children’s Toothpaste

Usually, children’s toothpaste lowers the fluoride content to lessen the mineral intake and prevent fluorosis. Additionally, kids’ toothpaste comes with sweet flavors, like bubblegum or grape, to encourage children to maintain good oral hygiene.

Whitening Toothpaste

Whitening toothpaste is designed to help remove stains on the surface of your teeth. It is much more abrasive than cleansers, which can break down the enamel of the tooth and increase the risk of tooth decay when overused.

Sensitivity Toothpaste

Using sensitive toothpaste containing potassium nitrate can lessen tooth sensitivity to hot and cold substances. This helps shield the tooth nerves that cause sensitivity.

Don’t give up if it doesn’t work right away, though. It may take up to a month for the potassium nitrate to accumulate and start working.
