Are Dental Crowns Cosmetic or Restorative

Dental Crowns in Fort Piece

A dentist might suggest dental crowns in Fort Pierce for numerous situations. Getting a crown might be the best option to fix a damaged tooth after a hit to the face. Severe tooth decay is another common reason, as well as fostering strength following a root canal procedure.

But did you know they can be a cosmetic treatment, too?

Restorative Dental Crowns in Fort Piece

When Crowns Are Restorative

Dental crowns are most commonly used as a restorative procedure. They can repair and protect a damaged tooth so it can function normally. In cases such as covering a large filling or fracture, protecting a weakened tooth from breaking, and strengthening a tooth after a root canal, the crown’s main role is structural, even if it improves the tooth’s appearance.

When Crowns Are Cosmetic

Some examples of cosmetic uses of dental crowns include:

  • Covering a discolored or misshapen tooth
  • Creating a uniform smile line
  • Improving aesthetics as part of a smile makeover

While cosmetic reasons aren’t used as frequently as restorative ones, crowns can still be a viable option for improving the look of your smile in some cases.

Crowns are not purely cosmetic like veneers or teeth whitening—they restore function as well as appearance. Even if a crown is for restorative reasons, it often has cosmetic benefits because modern crowns are designed to look natural and match surrounding teeth.
