Dentist Port St Lucie | Root Canals

Tooth infections are very serious and should be treated quickly. They can have a negative impact on your overall health if you continue to disregard the symptoms. Luckily, this can be treated with a simple root canal procedure.

What is a Root Canal?

If your tooth is infected, you’ll most likely need a root canal to prevent tooth loss. More specifically, the part of the tooth that becomes infected is the pulp. It’s a soft area inside the tooth that’s composed of nerves and blood vessels. Once the tooth has moved into place as a child, the pulp is no longer necessary, so it’s perfectly fine to remove it with no consequences.

Symptoms of a Tooth Infection

If you have a tooth infection, you need to get treated as soon as possible. If you have any of these symptoms, you might need a root canal.

  • Severe tooth pain
  • Swollen gums
  • Sensitive teeth

The Root Canal Procedure

There is a common myth that root canals are an extremely painful and complex procedure, which scares many people when they are told they need one. That myth is far from the truth. Root canals are not much different from a normal filling and are relatively painless. In fact, you’ll feel relieved that you no longer have to deal with the pain of an infected tooth.

After numbing the surrounding area, the dentist will create an access hole and remove the infected pulp. The inside of the tooth will be thoroughly cleaned and then filled so it will look completely natural.

Think You Might Need a Root Canal in Fort Pierce?

Having an infected tooth is a serious condition and should be treated as soon as possible before it affects your oral health – and even your overall health. If you are feeling symptoms of a tooth infection and think you might need a root canal, contact us today to schedule an appointment.
