What Are the Benefits of Root Canal Therapy?

pain before Root Canal Pompano Beach

Did your dentist tell you to get a root canal in Pompano Beach? Many people have reservations about this treatment because they associate it with pain. To set the record straight, root canal therapy is not painful.

On the contrary, having a root canal addresses the source of the pain and relieves it. Since its discovery, dentists have helped thousands of patients preserve their teeth instead of extracting them, thanks to the root canal.

What Are the Advantages of Root Canal Therapy?

Stops The Spread of Infection

The most common reason why root canals are recommended is to stop the spread of infection. Tooth decay is the usual culprit. When decay and cavities aren’t addressed, your tooth becomes susceptible to infection. If the infection isn’t treated, it can penetrate the dental pulp.

The pulp is found within the chamber of your tooth where it houses nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. Once it has reached this far, the infection may spread even further. A root canal can stop this by removing the decayed pulp and disinfecting the area.

Preserves Your Natural Teeth

Before the discovery of the root canal, dentists had no choice but to extract the infected tooth. Back then, there wasn’t a treatment once the infection made its way into the pulp.

Luckily, today your dentist can choose not to extract your tooth and perform a root canal instead. When the decayed and infected tissues are removed, your tooth’s health can be restored.
