Chewing Ice? You Could Be Headed for a Crown

We know how oddly satisfying it can be to crunch on ice. It’s cold, refreshing, and feels like a harmless habit, right? Not exactly. Chewing on ice might seem like no big deal, but it’s one of the fastest ways to land yourself in the dentist’s chair… and possibly needing dental crowns in Fort Pierce to fix the damage.

Why Ice Is Hard on Teeth

Just because your teeth are strong doesn’t mean they’re built to handle everything. Ice is surprisingly hard and can cause tiny cracks in your enamel over time. Those small fractures can turn into bigger problems — like broken teeth, sensitivity, or even full-on chips that need more than just a simple filling.

How Dental Crowns Help

The reality is most people don’t even notice the damage until it’s too late. You might bite into something and suddenly feel pain, or your dentist may spot the issue during a routine exam. That’s where dental crowns in Fort Pierce come in.

Crowns act like protective armor for weakened teeth. They fully cover the visible part of the tooth, restoring its shape, size, and strength. Besides protecting the damaged tooth from further cracking or breaking, they also help with chewing and improve your overall bite. In many cases, placing a crown can prevent more serious procedures like extractions or root canals later on.

Breaking the Ice-Chewing Habit

If you’re an ice chewer, don’t worry. It’s never too late to break the habit. Try switching to crushed ice, using a straw to avoid the urge, or chewing sugar-free gum instead. These small changes can make a big difference.
