Things Dentists Will Never Do to Their Teeth

Treasure Coast Dentist smiling

Dentists spend their careers helping others maintain healthy teeth, so it’s no surprise they have their own set of non-negotiables when it comes to oral care. If you’re looking for the secrets to a great smile, take a page out of a Treasure Coast dentist’s book and avoid these common habits.

Things a Dentist Will Never Do to Their Teeth

Chew on Ice or Hard Objects

Chewing ice or hard objects like pen caps may seem harmless, but it can lead to cracked teeth or worn enamel. Dentists know the long-term damage this habit can cause and steer clear of it entirely.

Skip Regular Dental Checkups

It might seem funny to imagine a dentist skipping their own appointments, but even they need professional cleanings and exams. Regular checkups help catch potential problems early, something dentists would never overlook for their own oral health.

Use Teeth as Tools

Opening packages or twisting off bottle caps with your teeth might seem like a quick fix, but it can lead to chips or fractures. Dentists never risk their enamel by using teeth as a substitute for proper tools.

Neglect Their Gums

Healthy gums are just as important as healthy teeth. Dentists know that ignoring gum care can lead to serious problems like gum disease or tooth loss. They always brush along the gum line and floss daily.

Consume Sugary Drinks Regularly

Dentists are well aware of how sugary beverages like soda or energy drinks can erode enamel and contribute to cavities. They avoid these drinks and choose water or unsweetened beverages instead.
