What Happens If My Dentures Dry Out?

Treasure Coast Dentures soaked in denture solution

Dentures are an essential part of restoring a confident smile, but proper care is key to keeping them functional and comfortable. One common concern is what happens if Treasure Coast dentures are left to dry out. Let’s dive into the consequences of dried-out dentures and how to prevent or fix the issue.

What Happens When Dentures Dry Out?

When dentures lose moisture, several problems can arise:

  • Warping: Dry dentures can distort, leading to an improper fit.
  • Brittleness: They become more prone to cracks and breakage.
  • Discomfort: Wearing dry dentures can cause irritation and fail to sit comfortably in your mouth.
  • Aesthetic Issues: Dried dentures may lose their polished appearance, making them look less natural.

How to Revive Dried-Out Dentures

If your dentures have dried out, here’s what you can do:

  • Soak Them: Place the dentures in warm water or a denture-cleaning solution for several hours to rehydrate them. Avoid hot water, which can worsen the damage.
  • Check for Damage: Look for signs of cracking or warping. If they seem damaged or uncomfortable, consult your dentist for repairs or adjustments.

Tips for Keeping Dentures Moist

To prevent future issues:

  • Store them in water or a recommended cleaning solution whenever they’re not in use.
  • Avoid leaving them exposed to air for extended periods.
  • Clean them daily and rinse them thoroughly to maintain their condition.
