What to Expect During Your First Week with Dentures

Starting with Vero Beach dentures is a big adjustment. Whether you’re new to dentures or just transitioning from temporary options, the first week can be a mix of excitement and challenges. Here’s what you can expect, along with some tips to make the transition smoother.

Day 1-2: Initial Comfort and Adjustment

The first day or two will likely be the most uncomfortable. Your gums may feel sore, and your dentures might seem bulky or awkward at first. It’s perfectly normal. Dentures are a new addition to your mouth, so expect to feel a bit of pressure and perhaps even a slight gag reflex as your mouth adjusts.

Tip: Stick to soft foods and take it easy with chewing. Avoid anything too sticky or hard.

Days 3-4: Mild Soreness and Sensitivity

By the third or fourth day, the initial soreness in your gums may start to subside, but you might still experience some tenderness. Your mouth is getting used to the feel of the dentures, and your gums are adjusting as well. This is the point where you’ll want to avoid long periods of wear to give your gums a break.

Tip: If you experience any discomfort or irritation, remove your dentures for a short while and try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water.

Day 5-7: Increased Comfort and Familiarity

By the end of the first week, you’ll start to feel more comfortable with your dentures. The irritation should begin to lessen, and you’ll likely be able to wear them for longer periods of time. You may also start to feel more confident in speaking and eating.

Tip: Continue practicing speaking and chewing with your dentures in, but be patient. It’s normal to have some difficulty at first, so take it slow.

Regular Follow-Up Visits

Remember, it’s important to keep your dentist updated on any discomfort or issues during this first week. If anything feels off, don’t hesitate to reach out. A quick adjustment can make a big difference in your comfort.
