What Not to Do When You First Get Dentures?

Getting dentures is a big step toward restoring your smile and oral function. While adjusting to new Fort Pierce dentures, there are some important things to avoid to ensure a smooth transition and maintain your oral health. Here’s a guide on what not to do when you first get dentures.

Fort Pierce Dentures

1. Don’t Ignore Discomfort

It’s normal to experience some discomfort or soreness initially. However, don’t ignore severe pain or persistent issues. If you have significant discomfort, contact your dentist to adjust the dentures for a better fit. Ignoring these issues could lead to further complications or sore spots.

2. Don’t Skip the Cleaning Routine

Even though your dentures are not your natural teeth, they still require regular cleaning. Avoid skipping your cleaning routine, as plaque and food particles can build up and lead to oral infections or bad breath. Clean your dentures daily with a denture brush and soak them in a cleaning solution recommended by your dentist.

3. Don’t Eat Hard or Sticky Foods

When you first get dentures, avoid eating hard or sticky foods. These can cause your dentures to shift or make it difficult to chew properly. Opt for softer foods and gradually introduce more solid foods as you become accustomed to your dentures.

4. Don’t Forget to Practice Speaking

Speaking with new dentures may feel awkward initially. However, don’t avoid practicing speaking. Read aloud or have conversations to get used to the feel of your dentures and improve your speech clarity. If you have persistent issues with speaking, consult your dentist for advice.

5. Don’t Delay Follow-Up Appointments

Regular follow-up visits with your dentist are crucial for adjusting and monitoring the fit of your dentures. Don’t delay these appointments, as timely adjustments can prevent issues and ensure your dentures fit comfortably and function well.
