Getting Dental Bridges: A Step-by-Step Guide

Dental bridges are a popular solution for replacing missing teeth. Understanding the process can help you feel more at ease if your dentist recommends this treatment. Here’s a step-by-step guide to getting dental bridges in Fort Pierce.

The Process to Get Dental Bridges

1. Initial Consultation

The first step is a consultation with your dentist. During this visit, the dentist will examine your teeth, take X-rays, and discuss your options. If a dental bridge is suitable for you, they will explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have.

2. Preparation of the Abutment Teeth

Dental bridges are anchored to adjacent teeth, called abutment teeth. These teeth need to be prepared to hold the bridge securely. The dentist will reshape these teeth by removing a small portion of enamel to make room for the crowns that will cover them.

3. Impressions

After the abutment teeth are prepared, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth. These impressions are used to create a model of your mouth, which helps in crafting a custom bridge that fits perfectly. You might receive a temporary bridge to protect the exposed teeth and gums while your permanent bridge is being made.

4. Fitting the Bridge

Once your custom bridge is ready, you’ll return to the dentist for a fitting. The dentist will place the bridge, check the fit, and make any necessary adjustments. The bridge will be permanently cemented in place once everything looks and feels right.

5. Follow-Up

A follow-up visit may be scheduled to ensure the bridge is fitting well and not causing any issues. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene are essential to maintaining your bridge and overall dental health.
