Besides giving your confidence a significant boost, replacing your missing teeth with Vero Beach dental implants is also one of the best things you can do for your oral health. However, preparing for dental implant surgery can be a nerve-wracking experience. Thankfully, we’ve put together some tips to help you mentally prepare yourself.

Tips to Help You Mentally Prepare for Your Dental Implant Surgery

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions

You’ll feel more prepared if you know more about the procedure. Your dentist can explain each step from start to finish to help you fully understand what to expect. They can also recommend coping strategies to help you feel less anxious and more comfortable during your appointment.

Prepare for Your Recovery

Just like any other surgical procedure, dental implant surgeries require recovery. Making the necessary preparations for your recovery period will make you feel more mentally prepared for your surgery. During this period, you may need to take some time off of work and your usual activities to get some rest.

Days before your appointment, be sure to make arrangements for transportation to and from the dentist’s office. You’ll also want to do your grocery shopping ahead of time. While you’re at it, purchase soft foods that won’t irritate your surgical site.

Follow Pre-Operative Instructions Closely

Your dentist may provide you with a list of pre-operative instructions, be sure to follow them closely to feel confident that you and your dentist are on the same page. You have to stop taking certain medications days or weeks before your treatment or limit your food and beverage intake by a specific time of day.

Give Yourself a Treat Before Your Appointment

Since you’ll be required to eat softer foods following your surgery, you’d want to treat yourself to your favorite meal the day before your appointment. However, be sure to get your timing right and check with your dentist first if you need to fast for a certain amount of time before the procedure. You can also choose to hang out with friends or do something fun to take your mind off the surgery.
