The Tall Tales of Dentures – Busted!

dentist in Treasure Coast holding Dentures

You don’t have to live the rest of your life without teeth. With Treasure Coast dentures, you can effectively maintain the appearance of a full set of teeth and improve your quality of life. Despite this, some people still fall for the lingering myths surrounding this tooth-replacement option.

If you’ve heard a few horror stories about dentures that keep you from setting an appointment to get fitted, you may want to know the truth behind these tall tales.

Busting the Biggest Denture Myths

MYTH #1: “You’ll look older than your actual age.”

While dentures have a stigma for old age, they won’t make you look older when you’re wearing them. On the contrary, a properly designed, full set of pearly white teeth can take years off of your appearance! Today’s dentures look incredibly realistic and they can freshen up your face and smile.

MYTH #2: “Dentures need adhesives to fit properly.”

If your dentures are properly fitted, you won’t have to use adhesive for comfort. However, if you experience a dental emergency, you may have to use denture adhesive to hold your artificial teeth in place while you wait to see your dentist.

MYTH #3: “Dental implants are way better than dentures.”

Although dental implants can be an excellent tooth-replacement option for many patients, they’re not for everyone. If you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes or if you’ve suffered extensive bone loss in your jaw, dentures are your safest bet. Unlike dental implants that involve a surgical procedure, the process of getting dentures is less invasive.

MYTH #4: “Dentures make chewing a challenge.”

Right after you get your dentures, you’ll go through an adjustment period while your gums heal and your facial muscles get used to holding your new teeth in place. However, you’ll become accustomed to your new dentures in just a matter of weeks.
