Care and Maintenance Tips for Dental Implants

Despite being one of the most dependable dental devices today, Vero Beach dental implants still need constant maintenance and upkeep to keep them in top condition. If you have dental implants or are planning to get them, you’ll need to know how to manage them. Here’s a guide that you can follow to assist you in maintaining your restoration.

Tips for Keeping Your Implants Clean

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

After obtaining your implants, your dentist might urge you to visit at least once every three months to check for any issues. To maintain the quality of your implants, you should schedule appointments with your dentist at least twice a year, even after they have given you the all-clear. With regular dental exams, your dental implants can last for years and even last a lifetime.

Brush and Floss Every Day

Plaque or tartar stuck on your device can affect your implants even though they’re designed to survive dental decay and cavities. While your dental implants are made of artificial materials, your gums aren’t. Regular brushing and flossing can reduce the buildup of plaque and tartar around your implants.

Use a Soft-Bristled Toothbrush

Your dentist could suggest changing the toothbrush you use based on your implants. Your dentist may advise using a soft-bristled toothbrush to prevent gum disease and damage to your implants’ surface. These toothbrushes gently and effectively clean your dental implants.

Avoid Certain Foods

Although implants are secure and durable, a few situations when applying too much pressure can reduce the effectiveness of the implants. After surgery, eating very hard or sticky items could significantly hurt or ruin them. Avoid eating any of the following foods right after your treatment to reduce the risk of harming your implants:

  • Hard nuts
  • Hard seeds
  • Chewy meat
  • Caramels and candies
