Are You Neglecting These Denture Care Essentials?

person about to put their Fort Pierce Dentures in glass of water

Taking care of your Fort Pierce dentures is an important part of ensuring your mouth stays healthy and you feel your best. However, there are some important things that many tend to forget or not pay enough attention to. Let’s explore the most significant things people often neglect when it comes to denture care.

Denture Care Essentials You Shouldn’t Forget

Avoiding Harsh Cleaning Products

One major oversight is the use of regular toothpaste or abrasive cleaning materials. Dentures require gentle care. Using harsh toothpaste or abrasive materials can lead to scratches and damage the denture’s surface. Instead, use specialized denture cleaners and a soft-bristle brush.

Proper Denture Soaking

Neglecting to keep dentures moist is a common mistake. Dentures should not be allowed to dry out, as they can warp and lose their shape. When not in your mouth, store your dentures in a denture soaking solution or water. Remember to rinse them thoroughly before reinserting.

Avoiding DIY Adjustments

When dentures become uncomfortable or ill-fitting, attempting to adjust them at home is a mistake that can lead to further issues. Do not try to modify your dentures yourself. Seek professional guidance from your dentist for necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit and function.

Nighttime Care

Sleeping with dentures can cause various problems, including fungal infections and discomfort. It’s important to remove dentures while sleeping to give your gums a chance to rest and recover. Soaking your dentures in a suitable solution overnight is also crucial for their longevity.

Dietary Considerations

Overlooking the impact of your diet on your dentures can be problematic. Avoid chewing on hard or sticky foods, as this can cause your dentures to break or become dislodged. Be mindful of your food choices to prevent potential damage.
